Where Ideas Are Born – Magnum Photos

Planned for early 2021

The group exhibition goes in search of the places where creativity takes shape - the artists' studios and studios where ideas are born. The show brings together over 20 internationally renowned photographers from the Magnum Agency. The independent photo agency was founded in New York in 1947 by the four photographers Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, David "Chim" Seymor and George Rodger. They named the agency after the bottle of champagne they drank on this occasion.

On display are around 80 photographic portraits of artists who made art history in the last century and who have had a decisive influence on the exhibition today. They can all be seen in their creative environment, from the cramped studios of Parisian avant-garde artists at the beginning of the 20th century, through the New York lofts of American pop and minimal artists to the highly professionally run studios of the international stars of the contemporary art market. The photographs are the result of an attempt to capture the moment when the spark of creativity is ignited.
